Here’s another TED talk by Stefan Larsson, on how doctors and surgeons can improvise healthcare by constantly updating each other on their recently gained knowledge.
Starting off from the goal of cutting the cost, his team along with him, pioneered a method to reduce the money spent on healthcare as well as improve the quality of treatment given to the patients. They defined the term “value” as the “outcome that mattered to their patients” relative to the “cost per patient”.
They focused on “value” based treatment of the patients, and achieved their goals.
Therefore, reducing the suffering of the patients by reducing the number of unnecessary and repeated surgeries, by enabling doctors, nurses and surgeons to discuss among themselves, what they have learnt from their previous experiences and storing and updating this data from time to time.
